Busy last two days (and some videos)
June 30, 2009
We can’t divulge too much information, but we had a “media outlet” come to our house for an interview this weekend. The interview continued yesterday, with us taking them to Swedish for a tour of the NICU, to Conceptions, and then back to our house for candid video of us playing with the boys. The details of who and why will be known in a few months and we can’t wait for everyone to see the results. Here is video 3 of 3 from yesterday, don’t miss Max’s new sad face at the start. You can see parts 1 and 2 at our YouTube page.
Along with all the hustle and bustle, both Max and Wes graduated to new pacifiers. I tried to get them to take them last week but they didn’t seem to care for the new shape. Amazing what a change a week makes. Max had already started trying to suck his thumb and now Wes is too.
Max also now has enough hair for a fauxhawk.

(warning – TMI)
As of yesterday, my uterus is now the proud home to a brand new, shiny (Mirena) IUD (intrauterine device)!!! No more condoms – wooo hooo!!! The procedure was quick and painless, and aside from a little cramping and spotting today, I’ve felt pretty decent. Now we don’t have to worry about birth control for 5 whole years – what a relief!
In other news, Max and Wes are starting to “talk” a lot more, and they are also getting into playing with some toys (rattles, rings, etc). Wes is getting really good at grabbing onto the toys, and Max is almost there! My Mom is here this week, and she’s really having fun watching her grandsons grow right before her eyes.
Here are a few pictures we’ve taken in the last week, or so…

We had quite the busy weekend! It’s now 10 o’clock on Sunday night, and I’m wondering where our weekend went…
Saturday morning, Jeff, Max, Wes, and I headed over to my cycle buddy’s house to have brunch with Lanie, Shane, Justice, and Sydney. As most of you will remember, around this time last year is when Jeff and I made the BIG decision to do our “Hail Mary” fertility treatment – the big kahuna – in-vitro fertilization. At the same time, Lanie and Shane had decided to do the same thing. A few months and lots of shots and pills later, we were both pregnant – with TWINS! We got together last winter and took this picture in front of Lanie and Shane’s fireplace…
What a difference a few months makes…
Anyway, we had a fantastic brunch with lots of good food, great conversation, and mimosas! And then it was off to Reese’s 2nd birthday party at Chris and Kate’s house. Last year, at Reese’s first birthday party, Jeff and I were telling everyone all about the journey we were about to begin, and this year we were there with the two most amazing little boys. It was definitely what Oprah would call a “full circle moment”. We had a great time with friends and kiddos, and Max and Wes had a great time making the rounds with the ladies (and Sarah’s husband, Jeff). HAPPY BIRTHDAY, REESE!!!
After we got home from the birthday party, we fed the boys real quick, and got ready to have a few people over for hot wings and beer (since we can’t really take Max and Wes to our favorite wing joint). We stayed up far too long (for a couple with 4 month old twins), but had far too much fun. Deep fried Cakesters anyone?
This morning I went to a friend’s bridal shower while Jeff spent some quality time snuggling and sleeping with our little guys. I got home in the afternoon, napped for a bit, and then we were off to dinner with Jeff’s mom, dad, and brother, Marty. But first, we took a few pictures to commemerate Jeff’s first Father’s Day…
And to my own Daddy, who I called too late (as he was in bed by the time I got around to calling him today), I love you!!! Happy Father’s Day to all of those fathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, and fathers-to-be out there!

4 month appointment
June 18, 2009
Here are their stats –
Max – 10 lbs, 9 oz, 22 1/2 inches long, head circ was 15 1/2.
Wes – 12 lbs, 8 oz, 23 3/4 inches long, head circ was also 15 1/2.
I didn’t ask about percentiles (because I just don’t want or need another thing to worry about), but Dr. B offered them up anyway. Without posting percentages, I’ll say that for their adjusted age, they are both doing really, really well – Wes is on the charts, and Max is almost there!
They both had their 4 month immunizations, and were little rockstars, only crying for a few seconds. They’ve been a little fussy since we got them home, so they both got a little bit of infant Tylenol. It’s bath night tonight, so hopefully that will help to soothe them a little bit.
We confessed to Dr. Brandon (and I don’t think I’ve mentioned it on here yet) that we were giving Max and Wes rice cereal in their nighttime bottles, and to our surprise he was totally okay with it! Thank you SO MUCH to my friend, Alexis, for suggesting that we try doing this – Max has been sleeping through the night (from 10:30-6!) since last Friday, and Wes is working on it (he usually gets up at least once or twice during the night and just needs to be rocked back to sleep). I can’t even tell you how nice it is to get a solid block of sleep at night (Jeff gets up with Wes) for the first time in probably about a year – absolutely heavenly.
Speaking of eating, we also took Wes off the Axid (reflux medication) and switched him to Enfamil AR (from the waaaay more expensive Enfamil Nutramigin), and he’s doing so awesome on it! I would say his spitting up has been reduced by at least 80%, and the reflux has seemed to subside as well. Hallelujah!!
Oh, one more great bit of news is that Dr. B doesn’t think Max and Wes will have to be re-circumcised, which is FANTASTIC!!!! At one of their first pediatrician appointments we were told that it was a high possibility that one or both of them would have to be re-circ’d, so this news was a HUGE relief!
After their appointment, we went to Salty Rita’s for some queso dip and mushroom and goat cheese quesadillas (and an adult beverage for mom and dad to celebrate another successful pediatrician visit). Max and Wes got their afternoon bottles, but I think they really wanted to try our drinks!

We’ve had quite the eventful weekend!
Friday night, Jeff and I were feeling a little stir crazy, so we decided to pack up Max and Wes and take them to dinner – at a bar (and no, you cannot smoke in bars in Colorado anymore, we wouldn’t have taken them anywhere where they would have been exposed to smoke). We obviously have no idea what’s going on in the outside world, as the bar was PACKED for Game 7 of the NHL playoffs. Oopsie! Thankfully, we knew a few people at the bar (I used to work there), so we just stood around and chatted with our friends while we waited (for what seemed like forever) for a table to leave so we could sit down and eat. We got a few shady looks and comments, but maybe that was me just being over-sensitive – there were a lot of other infants and children in the bar during the game. And it’s not like Jeff and I were getting tanked, doing shots, and staying out until 11 – we were having dinner, and we were out of there by around 9:15. When we were getting ready to pay the bill, a couple in their early 20’s walked by, and the girl said, “look…they have a baby…in a bar” (most of you know that quote from the movie Sweet Home Alabama), in a very sarcastic, unpleasant tone. I was tempted to say, “no, actually we have TWO babies – what do you think about that?” I didn’t. =) Here are a few pics of Wes and Max before we left…
Saturday, I had a great morning – a haircut with my absolute favorite stylist ever and a super relaxing pedicure afterwards. It was heavenly to have that time to myself (thanks honey)! Later yesterday afternoon, my good friends, Beth and Matt, came over to spend some time with the boys. Beth hadn’t seen them since they were on oxygen, and Matt had never met them before. Max just loved his uncle Matt, and Wes was a perfect angel for his auntie Beth. They both ended up crashing out while Beth and Matt were over, and I had to take that opportunity to take a picture of little Max…
Last night, we went over to our friends, Laura and Lee’s, house for dinner. We had a fantastic meal, yummy dessert, and great conversation. It was fun to play with their little boys (Adin is 3 and Ryan is 1.5), and see how much fun Max and Wes are going to be when they get a little older. Thanks so much you guys – we can’t wait to do it again!
This morning I took the boys to a friend’s house for a get together/playdate with other moms and babies who are also the products of fertility treatments. It was so fun (and man am I bummed that I forgot my camera)! I finally got to meet my cycle buddy, Lanie’s, little ones (Justice and Sydney), and boy are they adorable – I got smiles from both of them, I was so excited! I also met Lisa and her one year old twin girls (Hannah and Sophie), and met Shelley’s two boys (Dylan and Jason). I saw my friend Kiane again (she hadn’t seen the boys since they were in the NICU), and finally met her 7.5 month old, Dylan. We spent about 3 hours there, and aside from a minor meltdown from Wes (he was hungry), it went pretty darn good! I can’t wait to meet up with everyone again…and thanks for hosting, Shell!
This afternoon I’ve kept busy putting most of Max and Wes’s newborn clothing away and washing their 3 month onesies, shorts, t-shirts, and outfits. Max is still wearing some newborn clothes, but Wes is definitely in 3 (or even 3-6) month clothes – they’re growing up so fast!!!
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
